Who or What is IECARO?
(pronounced eye-car-oh)
- IECARO is a group of Amateur Radio Organizations
working together for their mutual benefit.
- IECARO is run by delegates from the
member organizations who are appointed by
their respective member organization.
- Each member organization is entitled to 2 delegates to
IECARO, and 1 vote per member organization on all matters before IECARO.
- IECARO is an ARRL
Affiliated Council.
What are the benefits of
membership in IECARO?
- IECARO provides a forum for the discussion of timely
issues and problems related to ham radio.
- IECARO conducts a periodic Leadership Conference, a
creative forum for seeking solution to common problems. For example;
increasing membership, increasing member attendance, etc.
- IECARO conducts periodic Editors Conference, a forum
for sharing editorial techniques, improvement in newsletters, sources of
useful data etc.
- As and ARRL Affiliated Council, IECARO handles
outgoing DX QSL cards for members of
the member organizations through the ARRL Outgoing QSL Bureau at no charge.
- IECARO conducts a series of "in-house" raffles where
all proceeds are used solely for the purchase of major prizes.
For example; 2M/70cm FM radios, HF transceivers, station packages etc.
In the year 2000, a Prize was a $2000.00 Shopping Spree at HRO. The only people that are eligible to purchase tickets are
the individual members of the
member organizations.
- IECARO has a traveling Field Day Trophy for the
member organization with the highest Field Day score. This award gives
the winner bragging rights for one year.
- IECARO drafts responses to critical issues presented
to the amateur community by the FCC in the form of Notices of Proposed Rule
Making (NPRM).
- As an ARRL Affiliated Council, IECARO periodically
hosts the annual ARRL Southwestern
Division Convention. This task is shared with other councils in
the Southwestern Division. member organizations collectively join
together as partners and share in both the labors of hosting the
convention and the profits from that effort. IECARO hosted
the conventions in Riverside in September 1998, and September 2001.
IECARO is hosting the 2005
convention has offered to host 2009 convention as well.

What are the dues?
- The IECARO dues are $12.00 per calendar year for each
member organization.
Is the Council Insured?
- IECARO carries ARRL liability insurance ($1,000,000).
Who are the
officers of IECARO?
- The officers are
usually members of the member organizations, however, the delegates are free
to elect any licensed amateur radio operator as an officer.
Who
are the current member organizations?
- The current member organizations are located in the
Inyo, San Bernardino and Riverside counties in the state of California.
